Valley Girl

Posted on February 3, 2009October 21, 2015 By Doriano No Comments on Valley Girl

valleygirl I really enjoy the movie “Valley Girl” (1983) starring a young Nicholas Cage as a punk rocker and a fantastic cast. The soundtrack was also loaded with a slew of 1980s goodness such as Josie Cotton, The Plimsouls and Modern English with their big hit, “I Melt with You”.

Basically, it’s nothing more than a retelling of Romeo and Juliet with the star-crossed lovers being a punk rocker dude and a rich girl from the valley, like oh my gawd. Yes, valley speak was all the rage back then. I know it’s big cheese looking back at it now but I loved it at the time and because of its connection to my youth I guess that means it will always be special to me.

The supporting characters were great too. Julie’s mom and dad are delightful as aging stoners who still enjoy a good bong pipe. Randy’s best friend is a hilarious sidekick and I found myself really pulling for his romance of Julie’s reluctant friend. The valley dudes were all so easy to hate too.

Here are some of the best scenes along with songs from the movie.

The Trailer

Here’s the first time they meet

Two great songs from The Plimsoulds “Oldest Story in the World” and “A Million Miles Away” which became their song
