I’m still in disbelief that my favorite team in basketball, the New York Knicks, just won the 2026 NBA championship. It was their first title since 1973! That’s 53 years of pain and heartache.
My first memory as a fan was really the 1990s Knicks with Patrick Ewing and John Starks. Unfortunately, they played during the sickening era of Michael Jordan of the Chicago Bulls whom I hated. They always beat my Knicks in the playoffs.
One of the most painful sports memories I ever experienced that still hurts to this day happened in 1994 when the Knicks came within inches of winning it all. They were able to make the finals because Jordan was out of basketball for two seasons (many believe he was suspended for gambling but the NBA commissioner would never admit it) so we were able to go to the finals. Sadly, though, we had to play another iconic legend, Akeem the dream and his Houston Rockets.
The Knicks lead 3 games to 2 and John Starks had a last second 3 pointer that would’ve won it all for the Knicks but Akeem tipped the shot and the dream was dead. They went on to lose game seven and that was that.
The Knicks went back to the finals in 1999 vs another Texas team, the San Antonio Spurs but Ewing wouldn’t play due to injury and they had two hall of famers, David Robinson and Tim Duncan. The Spurs won in 5 games.
Fast forward 27 years and guess who the Knicks faced again in the finals? Yes. The Spurs and this time they had another young phenomenon, Wemby who’s like 7 foot 6!!! I really didn’t like our chances but these Knicks were different. They were led by their captain, Jalen Brunson and they would win 13 games in row in the postseason including the first two in San Antonio! I was starting to believe they were a team of destiny!
Then New York lost in game three at home at Madison Square Garden and they trailed by 29 points in game four so it appeared to be a tied series going back to San Antonio.
But a funny thing happened. The Knick made a historic comeback and won 107-106 thanks to the last second tip in my OG!
The Knicks would come back again in game five when they only trailed by 16 points on the road and sealed the championship! They also came back in games 1 and 2 when trailing by 12 and 14 points!
Their record was 16-3 in the postseason which was the 2nd best ever. The Warriors went 16-1 in 2017 when they won 15 in a row.
Here are the scores for the Knicks who did break the record for biggest margin of victory and biggest point differential.

I know it’s just a game but it sure feels good to see your favorite team and town win it all!
It’s a long drought for any championships for any of my New York teams!
The last championship was by the Giants after the 2011 NFL season in the 2012 Super Bowl over Tom Brady! That was their second win over Brady and the Patriots (2007/2008) so that was a 14 year gap between titles.
The Yankees haven’t won since 2009 so it’s 17 years! That’s the longest drought for me since 1978 and 1994!
