Everyone seems to be jumping on the Twitter bandwagon these days. The news is full of celebrities talking about their peeps and their tweets. This includes politicians who continue to use the micro-blogging platform to express themselves and inform the people. Some are concerned about security risks or whether or not their congressman should be paying more attention to other things instead of twitter. In any event, it’s continuing to spread like wildfire in Washington and across the land.
This also includes main stream news media as reporters and journalists flock to twitter as well. A good example is what happened recently when George Stephanopoulus actually interviewed John McCain on Twitter!
In what was termed a “Twitterview”, George and McCain discussed matters such as AIG bailout and bonuses, McCain’s thoughts on Dick Cheney’s statement that Obama has put our nation at risk for another terrorist attack and other topics such as his daughter’s feud with a radio talkshow host that called her fat. (I tweeted about that this morning, BTW). George even asked several questions that he received from other members of the twitter community.
I guess we can see more of these Twitterviews as everyone and literally their mother joins Twitter. What do you think about all this?
Note: I got wind of this news item via a tweet from a new member of Twitter, my wife!
I suppose there will be more of this and it's cheaper, let's admit it, but this is PR pure and simple. George Steph. can get Sen McCain any time. This interview would have had more depth face to face. It shows both Twitter's power (and more so as we have not read the response to this) but also its limitations. We were down to the 10 second sound bite. Now we're down to the tweet.
