I’ve always loved science fiction stories and movies and TOTAL RECALL (1990) is one of my favorites of all-time. Even non Sci-Fi fans admit to enjoying this movie because it has such an interesting story behind all the action.
Even though the movie is 20 years old now (wow!), many of the technologies from the film are only now becoming reality. One of them is the full body scanners that airports are starting to use today thanks to terrorists that continue to slip passed security checkpoints.
There’s a young Sharon Stone using what appears to be a Wii tennis game to sharpen her game.
There are many more cool technologies on display in Total Recall that weren’t in existence such as the giant screen TV screen in the kitchen that also displayed the scenery of choice in virtual windows.
Here’s the trailer along with a bunch of my favorite scenes including the theme music which I love. Ranks up there with the Terminator theme for best Sci-Fi theme. Includes the Making of Total Recall.
I think Total Recall ranks right up there as one of the best sci-fi movies. It has something for everyone, action for men and a love story for the ladies and plenty of everything else for all others. The concepts of embedding memories such as vacations and controlling one’s identity are still so fascinating.
NOTE: Sadly, one of the Total Recall writers, Dan O’Bannon recently passed away at the age of 63. He also wrote the screenplay for ALIEN (1979),
