“CLOSER” (2004) caught me totally off-guard. I thought it would be a good movie because of the amazing cast (Julia Roberts, Natalie Portman, Jude Law and Clive Owen) but I didn’t expect it to be as good and as deep and as thought-provoking as I found it to be.

Yes, there are some lover stories but there’s much more to it than that. It’s actually brutally honest and raw when it comes to relationships, especially sex and passion. Whether you like how the movie ends or not doesn’t really matter (I didn’t but that’s ok). It’s the entire journey that sticks with you. The characters all change dramatically over the course of the story which is no easy trick in a 2 hour film.

Here’s the trailer for a taste

Here’s the memorable opening of the film. This clip is in another language so what Natalie Portman says is “Hello, Stranger”.

I love this song too. The Blower’s Daughter by Damien Rice.

Thanks to Christina aka @Film_girl for reminding me of it
