World Champions

Posted on October 27, 2000September 24, 2015 By Doriano No Comments on World Champions

Recently, I posted something about how obsessed our society is over winning and how sad it is to be so focused on the results of competition instead of the thrill of the game.
Well, I must admit that I am feeling rather overjoyed today about my lifelong favorite sports team, the New York Yankees, winning their 3rd World Championship in a row and 4th in 5 years! Yes, it is embarrassing to admit, but I feel very good about it for some stupid reason, almost as if I had something to do with it. How absurd!
I do feel bad for the losing team, the New York Mets. They fought valiantly and deserved to win just as much as my team. Such is the way of Sport. For every victory there will be a defeat; every winner means there will be a loser.
I guess this only validates my point about not placing one’s total self-worth upon the results of some competition. The players on the losing team are not lesser human beings than the winning team members. A lesson to teach our youth.
