Hamnet moved me to the core like few films have. It was sad, yes, but also joyful and majestic and inspirational too. It is a reminder to cherish those we hold dear while we still can in this life.
Everyone who has experienced loss will appreciate this movie. Even the legendary William Shakespeare was humbled and shaken to the core. Despite all the success he experienced, he realized too late that if we don’t focus on the ones we love most then we will lose the chance of a lifetime to adore them.

The third act was so incredible. I found it difficult to breathe throughout most of it especially when Agnes the mother of Hamnet goes to the theater to see what her husband’s latest play was all about. She thought he wasn’t mourning like she was but learned how wrong she was. I know I will never look at Hamlet ever the same way again. I understand it now in profound new ways.
When she reached out to the dying prince you could feel the passion. It was an unforgettable scene.

By the end, when the audience reached out to the prince, I think everyone in the movie theater felt the same way.

I need to see this again and again. I also want to read all of Shakespeare’s works again and watch the best film adaptations again too, My favorite ones being 1968’s Romeo & Juliet by Franco Zeffirelli and Much Ado About Nothing by Kenneth Branagh.

Do yourself a favorite and watch this wonderful film.
