They just announced the nominations for the Emmy awards which honors TV’s best.
I don’t watch nearly as much TV as I used to, but there are a couple of things I love watching.
I do enjoy The Sopranos and Sex in the City (or anywhere for that matter, heh heh heh). They are a little raunchy but funny cause they ring so true! The funniest show on regular TV is “Everybody loves Raymond”, along with “Will & Grace”.
As for TV movies, I must admit yet another guilty pleasure. When done well, TV movies are as good as feature films! For example, my two favorite TV movies for the past year were nominated! They were “*61” and “WIT”. The movie *61 was one of the best sports based movies I’ve ever seen. It showed the home run chase of 1961 by two Yankees, Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle (my boyhood hero). The movie WIT was stunning and life changing. It was based on a true story about a female professor who was dying and how she desperately tried to hold onto her wit as she faced her mortality. Awesome stuff!
So the next time someone says that TV is the great wasteland and that there is nothing of quality on air, please beg to differ! Yes, there is more crap on TV than quality programming, but those rare jewels are well worth it. As with everything in life, you must make wise decisions and make the most of your time.
