Why do we (mankind….mostly men actually) place so much emphasis on winning? Whether in sports or in the business world, there seems to be a total fixation on becoming number one. Why is that? Doing your best is not good enough these days.
You have to win and win at all costs. Look at how forgiving universities and professional teams are when it comes to disciplining their “elite” performers. I say we teach children from the beginning to enjoy every competition as much as they can and never relate the outcome to their self-worth and self-esteem. Let’s leave that self-destructive practice to the parents and other lost souls.
