You
I hate that I get all misty eyed whenever I hear a
radio station call some sweet mother who has been
struggling so much financially that they can’t even
afford to have Christmas for their kids and then tell
them that they are going to give them enough money to
buy clothes, food and toys for their kids!
I know it’s sappy, corny and all that, but it makes
you feel good. That’s what this time of year is all
about, really.
As a matter of fact, last night I watched a powerful
special on Oprah in Africa and she explained why she
decided to go to Africa to visit the millions of
starving poor children there. She told the story of
her favorite Christmas when she was a kid and how poor
her family was and how they were not going to
celebrate Christmas because of being so poor. Then she
shared the joyful explosion of happiness that she
experienced when some nuns brought over some food and
toys! It wasn’t much, but it meant so much to her that
she has never forgotten it till this day. She still
considers it the best Christmas ever! This from a
woman who is a multi-millionaire! So she has gone to
Africa and has shown countless children and adults in
Africa that there is a glimmer of hope in life. She
has donated not only her precious time, but money as
well. She’s put millions of dollars into building a
new educational system because she said education was
the key to her success in life. She knows that
knowledge is the key to hope and happiness in life.
She’s already changed many lives and her life has
changed as well. She was even tempted to adopt some of
the children personally!
Anyway, it’s just another great example of the Christmas spirit and what Christmas is all about.
