cry

Can’t believe it’s been 23 years since this groundbreaking music video for the song “”CRY” by Godley & Creme came on the scene. They introduced the concept of morphing to the masses and it quickly became all the rage in other videos as well as TV commercials and even motion pictures.

By the way, Godley & Creme were once part of the popular group known as 10cc which did “I’m Not in Love”, “The Things We Do for Love” and more.

Falling in Love at a Coffee Shop

Landon Pigg’s “Falling in Love at a Coffee Shop” was one of my favorite songs last year. I first saw it in one of those diamond commercials and thought it was a wonderful piece of music. Hearing the full version only made me love the song more. Here are both renditions of the hauntingly lovely song. The full video (Embed code disabled grrrr!!!)

Here’s the TV commercial that introduced Landon and the song to most of the world last holiday season

I think that possibly
Maybe I'm falling for you
Yes
There's a chance that I've fallen quite hard over you

I've seen the paths that your eyes wander down
I want to come too

I think that possibly
Maybe I'm falling for you

No one understands me quite like you do
Through all of the shadowy corners of me

I never knew just what it was about this old coffee shop I love so much
All of the while I never knew

I never knew just what it was about this old coffee shop I love so much
All of the while I never knew

I think that possibly
Maybe I'm falling for you
Yes
There's a chance that I've fallen quite hard over you

I've seen the waters that make your eyes shine
Now I'm shining too

Because
Oh
Because I've fallen quite hard over you

If I didn't know you I'd rather not know
If I couldn't have you I'd rather be alone

I never knew just what it was about this old coffee shop I love so much
All of the while I never knew

I never knew just what it was about this old coffee shop I love so much
All of the while I never knew

All of the while
All of the while it was you
You

Late Bloomers

We all know people that were late bloomgers in life. Maybe you’re one of them? You know, those geeky, awkward types in their youth that eventually blossomed into glorious adulthood. This video from Phil Vassar called CARLENE covers this topic well. It’s about this nerdy girl in school that no one paid any attention to but eventually became a beauty that everyone wants to know now. It’s not always about appearances either. Sometimes we’re ultra shy as teens or even in college then we break out and become amazing for some reason. Some people take more time to mature and find themselves. Don’t make the mistake of labeling people and discarding them too soon. Some people don’t hit their stride till even later in life. We’re all works in progress.

If I Were a Boy

I finally got around to listening to Beyonce’s new song, “If I were a Boy” and watched the music video after hearing several people talk about Beyonce. So off I went to check it out and I was blown away. What a great song and video. I can’t say too much about the video without giving it away. Just see for yourself. You’ll need to experience it a few times to appreciate it.

I love the whole idea of trying to put yourself in your lover’s position to see how they feel. Men have always tried to solve the mystery of women. Getting in touch with our feminine side is only a good thing. I think this song is great cause it also addresses the opposite concept. It would benefit ladies too if they would try to put themselves in their man’s shoes for a moment. It’s all about perspective and experience.

Here are the lyrics

If I were a boy
Even just for a day
Id roll out of bed in the morning
And throw on what I wanted and go
Drink beer with the guys
And chase after girls
Id kick with who I wanted
And I’d never get confonted for it
Cause theyd stick up for me.
[Chorus]
If I were a boy
I think I could understand
How it feels to love a girl
I swear Id be a better man.
Id listen to her
Cause I know how it hurts
When you lose the one you wanted
Cause hes taken you for granted
And everything you had got destroyed

If I were a boy
I would just turn off my phone
Tell everyone it’s broken
So they think that I was sleeping alone
Id put myself first
And make the rules as I go
Cause I know that shed be faithful
Waitin for me to come home
[Chorus]
Its a little too late for you to come back
Say it’s just a mistake
Think Id forgive you like that
If you thought I would wait for you
You thought wrong
But youre just a boy
You dont understand (Yeah you dont understand)
How it feels to love a girl
Someday you wish you were a better man
You dont listen to her
You dont care how it hurts
Until you lose the one you wanted
Cause youve taken her for granted
And everything you had got destroyed
But youre just a boy

Breathe

I became transfixed with Anna Nalik’s “Breathe (2 AM)” song for the first time during a Grey’s Anatomy episode (one of my fave TV shows its first two seasons anyway). The voice and the lyrics just hypnotized me. I quickly found out who it was and enjoyed the full song and then music video.

My favorite passages of the song are regarding the writing process and how naked the writer feels as we share ourselves to the crowd. She captures the feeling so well. It’s so true too. Once we capture our thoughts and emotions with words and share them with the world they are no longer our’s and people will use our words any way they want to which is wonderful.

BREATHE (2 AM)

2 AM and she calls me ’cause I’m still awake,
can you help me unravel my latest mistake,
I don’t love him, winter just wasn’t my season
Yeah we walk through the doors, so accusing their eyes
Like they have any right at all to criticize,
hypocrites, you’re all here for the very same reason
‘Cause you can’t jump the track,we’re like cars on a cable
and life’s like an hourglass, glued to the table
No one can find the rewind button girl,
So cradle your head in your hands
And breathe, just breathe,
Woah breathe, just breathe
May he turn 21 on the base at Fort Bliss
Just today he sat down to the flask in his fist,

Ain’t been sober, since maybe October of last year.
Here in town you can tell he’s been down for a while,
But my God it’s so beautiful when the boy smiles,
Wanna hold him, maybe I’ll just sing about it.
Cause you can’t jump the track, we’re like cars on a cable,
And life’s like an hourglass, glued to the table.
No one can find the rewind button boys,
So cradle your head in your hands,

And breathe, just breathe,
Woah breathe, just breathe
There’s a light at each end of this tunnel, you shout
‘Cause you’re just as far in as you’ll ever be out
These mistakes you’ve made, you’ll just make them again
If you only try turning around.

2 AM and I’m still awake, writing a song
If I get it all down on paper, its no longer
inside of me, threatening the life it belongs to
And i feel like I’m naked in front of the crowd
Cause these words are my diary, screaming out loud
And I know that you’ll use them, however you want to
But you can’t jump the track, we’re like cars on a cable,
And life’s like an hourglass, glued to the table
No one can find the rewind button now
Sing it if you understand.
and breathe, just breathe
woah breathe, just breathe,
oh breathe, just breathe.
oh breathe,just breathe

From Where You Are

I’m numb from having just experienced this wonderfully poignant song called “From Where You Are” by Jason Wade of Lifehouse, one of my favorite bands. He wrote the song for the AllState’s Teen Driving Progam and dedicated it to all teens that have perished in auto accidents. It was also a tribute to his friend who died in a car accident at the age of 16.

The music video is so well-done that it leaves you full of so many emotions and memories of friends you don’t see anymore for one reason or another. Perhaps they’re no longer with us, maybe you just lost touch through the years. Still, so many people touch our lives in deep profound ways that they last forever even if they physically disappear from your daily life.

Personally, I’m thinking of my childhood chums Charlie, Dave B, Lee, Cesar, Gerard, Big Peter, little Peter, Joey, and everyone in the North Ward of Newark, NJ. I don’t see any of them anymore and haven’t for many years but memories remain. The echoes of laughter and goodtimes still reside inside my head and heart. The same for all the first girlfriends and boyfriends we had growing up. Remember how monumental it was to hold hands? GASP! Ah, the sweet innocence of youth.

The ending of the video is extra special. It’s such a moving message that hits you hard. It’s a serious subject matter that I hope and pray improves with increased awareness and knowledge. Maybe experiencing songs and videos like this one will help change some lives? Also worthy of note, the long line of cars driving and disappearing all of a sudden is powerfully symbolic.

The lyrics follow the video

From Where You Are

So far away from where you are
These miles have torn us worlds apart
And I miss you
Yeah, I miss you
So far away from where you are
Standing underneath the stars
And I wish you were here
I miss the years that were erased
I miss the way the sunshine would light up your face
I miss all the little things I never thought that they’d mean everything to me
Yeah, I miss you
And I wish you were here
I feel the beating of your heart
I see the shadows of your face
Just know that wherever you are
Yeah, I miss you
And I wish you were here
I miss the years that were erased
I miss the way the sunshine would light up your face
I miss all the little things
I never thought that they’d mean everything to me
Yeah, I miss you
And I wish you were here
So far away from where you are
These miles have torn us worlds apart
And I miss you
Yeah, I miss you
And I wish you were here

Must Be Dreaming

I love Imogen Heap! I just adore her voice and the way she sings. I also think she’s beautiful and has such an unique and original spirit and vibe. I also love her old group Frou Frou. They’ve had a bunch of their songs featured in motion pictures and popular TV shows such as CSI Miami, Dawson’s Creek, Roswell, Malcolm in the Middle,Wonderfalls, Saturday Night Live, Laguna Beach, Birds of Prey, So You Think You Can Dance, Sugar Rush, Bones, Grey’s Anatomy, and Queer As Folk.. Some of the most popular being “Holding out for a Hero” from Shrek which was such a wonderful version that I liked even more than the Footloose original by Bonnie Tyler!

Here’s the music video for “MUST BE DREAMING”
Imogene looks lovely and her voice is in full form too

Here are the lyrics to “Must Be Dreaming”

“Must Be Dreaming”
Pay close attention
Don’t listen to me from now
George’ll be flying this one
And it’s anyone’s guess how he does this
Is the right turn wrong
Universe taking me in full bloom
Fireball careful with that there
See what you made me do
I must be dreaming
Or we’re onto something
I must be dreaming
For i don’t fall in love lawlessly
I must be dreaming
Or pinch me to waking
So undeniably yours
As long as i’m losing it so completely
Incendiary glance
Be come and collide in me
Zoom in enhance hold
While i go helplessly sky high
Magic eye sugar rushing don’t stop
I must be dreaming
Or we’re onto something
Hey just watcha make me
For i don’t fall in love lawlessly
I must be dreaming
Or pinch me to waking
So undeniably yours
As long as i’m losing it so completely
Euphoria i can’t take any more of
Yah i’m losing it

Cherish the Day

I experienced this song for the first time recently through a friend of mine. I’ve always loved Sade but never heard this one before. Not even sure when it came out. All I know is that I love the song, the lyrics, the mood it elicits, the way she looks is amazing and the way she moves to the groove is fantastic. Great stuff.

Words: Sade Adu
Music: Sade Adu, Andrew Hale and Stuart Matthewman
You’re ruling the way that I move
And I breathe your air
You only can rescue me
This is my prayer
If you were mine
If you were mine
I wouldn’t want to go to heaven
I cherish the day
I won’t go astray
I won’t be afraid
You won’t catch me running
You’re ruling the way that I move
You take my air
You show me how deep love can be
You’re ruling the way that I move
And I breathe your air
You only can rescue me
This is my prayer
I cherish the day
I won’t go astray
I won’t be afraid
You won’t catch me running
I cherish the day
I won’t go astray
I won’t be afraid
Won’t run away
You show me how deep love can be
You show me how deep love can be
This is my prayer
I cherish the day
I won’t go astray
I won’t be afraid
Won’t run away
Won’t shy
I cherish the day
I won’t go astray
I cherish the day
I cherish the day
I cherish the day
I cherish the day
I cherish the day

Sleeping Satellite

Tasmin Archer isn’t well-known in the USA but she’s been a pop star for many years world-wide. My favorite song is the first one that I ever heard from her called “Sleeping Satellite” (1992). Here’s the American music video which was much different than the original British one.

Lyrics for

Sleeping Satellite

I blame you for the moonlit sky
and the dream that died
with the eagles' flight
I blame you for the moonlit nights
when I wonder why
are the seas still dry?
don't blame this sleeping satellite

Did we fly to the moon too soon
did we squander the chance
in the rush of the race
the reason we chase is lost in romance
and still we try
to justify the waste
for a taste of man's greatest adventure

I blame you for the moonlit sky
and the dream that died
with the eagles' flight
blame you for the moonlit nights
when I wonder why
are the seas still dry?
don't blame this sleeping satellite

have we lost what it takes to advance?
have we peaked too soon?
if the world is so green
then why does it scream under a blue moon
we wonder why
If the earth's sacrificed
for the price of it's greatest treasure

I blame you for the moonlit sky
and the dream that died
with the eagles' flight
blame you for the moonlit nights
when I wonder why
are the seas still dry?
don't blame this sleeping satellite

and when we shoot for the stars
what a giant step
have we got what it takes
to carry the weight of this concept
or pass it by like a shot in the dark
miss the mark with a sense of adventure

I blame you for the moonlit sky
and the dream that died
with the eagles' flight
blame you for the moonlit nights
when I wonder why
are the seas still dry?
don't blame this sleeping satellite
