I’ve always liked this song but never knew who did it. The Shazzam app helped me find out while watching the trailer for a new Disney movie that’s using the song to promote African Cats. It sure sounds like Snow Patrol if you ask me. In any event, love the song.

Dreamin’

A contestant on American Idol season 10 (2011) sang DREAMIN’ by Amos Lee which brought a huge new audience to this incredible singer. Here’s the original version by Amos Lee following by the lyrics and then the one by Scott Dangerfield from his audition on Idol.

I love this song not just because it’s simply beautiful and the vocals are heavenly but also because of its message. He knows people are calling him a dreamer and he accepts the fact that he is and he’s perfectly fine with it. He even boldly proclaims that he has every intention to continue doing just that, dreamin’. He also says that love is what pulls him through.

I love that because I know that I’m a dreamer too. It took me a long time to accept it and I’ve stopped thinking of it as a negative label. Quite frankly, I love being a dreamer in this crazy thing called life. Are you one too? Don’t let the dreamkillers steal your bliss or get in your way as you make your dreams come true. Remember that the road to every dream is littered with naysayers and excuse-makers so keep on dreamin’!

Here’s Scott Dangerfield who did a wonderful job. He made it to Hollywood week but dropped out because he didn’t want to miss the start of his new career as a teacher. He might come back next year. I sure hope so.

Train’s new song “Marry Me” has a wonderful music video that tips the cap towards “When Harry Met Sally” with sweet little stories from couples. I also like the lyric “Marry Me. If I ever get the nerve to say

It’s a clever way of saying even the greatest love stories of all-time began somewhere. Even the greatest passions began with the simplest of sparks like saying hello at a café.

I love Billy Joel but mostly his stuff prior to 1980’s Glass Houses which was good but clearly the beginning of a different era for his music. Billy’s last great album was “52nd Street” from 1978. Just checkout the way it begins with three masterpieces:

Big Shot, Honesty and then My Life. What a 1, 2, 3 punch, huh?
Checkout the following three rare music videos filmed for these songs. I especially liked My Life which shows a young Billy and the band on the streets of New York City circa 1978 when Reggie Jackson and the Yankees ruled the world.

The Only Exception

I really like Hayley Williams and Paramore. One of my favorite songs they’ve done is “The Only Exception” which was probably their biggest hit on the charts. It’s a softer side to their usually harder edge. It’s all about a girl who’s very skeptical about love but then makes an exception to her rule when she meets the one.

The Christmas Song

Everyone has their own favorite Christmas song. For whatever reason, I’ve always loved The Christmas Song by Nat King Cole the most. It never gets old for me unlike most of the other holiday standards. I think it’s a combination of the music, Coles’ amazing voice and most of all the way it captures the best aspects of Christmas time. From the opening line of chestnuts roasting on an open fire down to the closing lines about kids from one to ninety-two, this song sums up this magical time of year.

I am obsessed with a song that came out in 1999 called “Senza Pieta” which means “Without Mercy” by an Italian artist I love named Anna Oxa. Somehow I never heard it when it came out so it’s like a new song to me. She’s always been one of my favorite artists because she’s always so unique and original. She always looks and sounds different but she is always beautiful and such a passionate performer. She’s been very successful in Italy and abroad for decades.

I was so thrilled to read that Anna actually won the grand prize at the festival of Sanremo which is an annual competition in Italy for music artists. She previously won the prize a decade earlier in 1989 with “Ti lascerò” which was a duet with Fausto Leali. She had placed 2nd at the festival in 1978 as a 16 year old so this was a wonderful achievement that took over 20 years to win completely on her own. What a song it is too.

The music video is just as enjoyable as the song itself. She looks amazing and I enjoyed the Gladiator and knights of the round table look and feel. Check it out below as well as her live performance of the song at Sanremo which she won in 1999.

No matter how bad things seem, deep down I know it’s still a wonderful world. This song called “WONDERFUL WORLD” by James Morrison always snaps me out of any funk I find myself in. It’s just a beautiful reminder of how great things really are. It’s all about how we look at things. We just need to focus on the positive and our mood changes instantly. I love this song.

What a powerful song “Not Meant To Be” is. It’s not just a good song to hear but the message is so right on the money. We’ve all been in the kind of relationship this story tells… It’s such a helpless feeling when you realize that no matter what you do, your relationship just isn’t going to make it. Still, you try and keep the faith and hope things will go back to the way they used to be.
